Malegra® FXT is produced by Sunrise Remedies. The effectiveness of the medication is exhibited through the action of Sildenafil Citrate, a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor, and Fluoxetine, an antidepressant from the drug class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

Indications:

- erectile dysfunction or male impotence, a condition where a man cannot achieve and sustain erection rigid enough for a normal sexual intercourse;

- premature ejaculation (PE), a condition when a man ejaculates too early (less than 1 minute after penetration).

Sildenafil is approved for the treatment of PAH (pulmonary arterial hypertension).

MOA (mechanism of action):

Sildenafil usually breaks down enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 and results in release of cGMP in the penis. An increased level of cGMP relaxes the smooth muscles and improves blood flow inducing an erection. Fluoxetine works by increasing the activity of serotonin in the nervous system. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is involved in passing messages between nerve cells, including those that result in ejaculation. Promoting the activity of serotonin aids in increasing the time it takes to ejaculate and improves control over the ejaculation.

Dosage

Malegra® FXT pills can be taken with or without food.

Swallow a pill whole with a drink of water.

Take one pill of Malegra® FXT orally 1 hour prior sexual activity.

Precautions:

Malegra® FXT does not protect you or your partner from sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV) or from pregnancy.

Take Malegra® FXT tablet not more than once every 24 hours.

It should only be taken when sexual activity is anticipated and is not intended as a regular treatment that is taken each day.

Missing a dose

Malegra® FXT is used only when needed, therefore missed dosages are not relevant. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose. Do not take a double dose.

Overdose

If you take an overdose of Malegra® FXT, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with Malegra® FXT are:

• dizziness
• headache
• feeling sick
• anxiety, irritability, restlessness or agitation
• difficulty concentrating
• difficulty sleeping
• feeling tired or sleepy
• yawning
• tremor
• tinnitus
• blurred vision
• sinus congestion
• upset stomach
• indigestion, flatulence and dry mouth
• excessive sweating
• flushing

Side effect occurrence does not only depend on medication you are taking, but also on your overall health and other factors.

Contraindications

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you are allergic to Sildenafil, Fluoxetine, other PDE-5 inhibitors (Tadalafil, Vardenafil, Udenafil), other SSRIs or to any of the medication's components.

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you have taken recreational drugs such as ecstasy (MDMA), ketamine, LSD, poppers (amyl nitrate), narcotics or benzodiazepines.

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you are taking erythromycin, alpha-blockers, antifungal medications (ketoconazole and itraconazole), medications for HIV (ritonavir, saquinavir, nelfinavir and atazanavir), certain antibiotics (telithromycin), lithium, antidepressants (venlafaxine, fluoxetine).

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you are taking other medications, including alprazolam (Xanax), anticoagulants (warfarin), antidepressants (Elavil, Asendin, Anafranil, Norpramin), MAOI antidepressants (Marplan, Nardil, Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), NSAIDs (Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn), clopidogrel (Plavix), diazepam (Valium), digoxin (Lanoxin), diuretics ('water pills'), linezolid, flecainide (Tambocor), medications for diabetes, lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid), medications for anxiety and Parkinson's disease, methylene blue, medications for mental illness (Clozaril, Haldol), medications for migraine (Axert, Relpax, Frova, Amerge), medications for seizures (Tegretol, Dilantin), sedatives, sibutramine (Meridia), sleeping pills, tramadol (Ultram), tranquilizers, and vinblastine (Velban).

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you are taking herbal products that contain St. John's wort or tryptophan.

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you if you experience seizures (convulsions or fits).

Do not consume alcohol while using Malegra® FXT, as it can lower your blood pressure, causing dizziness and rapid heart rate (tachycardia).

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you suffer from or have history of cardiovascular disease, liver or kidney disorders, hypotension, leukemia, peptic ulcer disease, rhinitis, open-angle glaucoma, epilepsy.

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you have a history of fainting, mania (feeling overexcited, irritable or not being able to think clearly) or severe depression.

Do not take Malegra® FXT if you have inflammation or injury on the penis.

Malegra® FXT is not for use in women, children or adolescents under age 18 years.
